All puppies/Litters will have first set of vaccines, every other weekly wormings, Aptitude tested, BAER tested, and livestock tested  before leaving.  Available for working, show or pets for active homes! Wiser Stock Dogs ACDs reserves the right to hold back any puppies out of any litter if breeder so desires. Puppies will not be ready untill around eight weeks of age. I do not push weaning on my puppies and let mom decide when it is time. We will not and do not dock tails. Pups $2500 for limited registration unless specified otherwise. Full Registration can be discussed. We require a deposit of $350 to hold a specific pup and it is non- refundable. Picks are not made till AFTER the Volhard Puppy Aptitude Testing is completed (around 6 weeks old). Please visit the Aptitude Testing Page for more information. Notice: we do however for better safety for traveling to new homes, we vaccinated our puppies at 7 weeks old, then let them rest a week before leaving at 8 weeks old. 

Spay/Neuter Time Recommendations & Information 

NOTICE: For those purchasing "pet" prospects, Breeder allows buyer to wait up to 2 years old to spay/neuter pup. The health and welfare of the puppy should be the main concern for his or her longevity and finding by veterinarian that the growth plates still need time to close before spay/neuter - (on average most growth plates are closed at approximately 14-16 months of age for ACDs, however in larger individual ACD dogs they may remain open until 18-20 months of age or possibly up to two years of age.) Breeder recommends and encourages 5 years before spay/neuter for well developed dogs! If longer than is needed, please have veterinarian write an email with their recommendation stating that said dog/puppy’s castrate procedure should be extended at at such a future date for welfare of the dog/puppy due to following reasons to breeders email: wiserstockdogs@yahoo.com. Breeder strongly suggests to wait for spay/neuter till 5 years of age.  If Buyer decides to spay/neuter dog earlier, buyer understands that breeder is not responsible for the side effects caused by early spay/neutering and/or lack of proper exercise/nutrition. Puppy Exercise General
  • The ages for growth plate closure are only general guidelines and will vary from puppy to puppy.  There will also be differences in recommendations based on your dog’s breed - giant breed puppies’ growth plates tend to close later and small breed puppies’ growth plates close earlier.
  • Sex hormones are what signal growth plates to close, so If your puppy was neutered before around 18 months old, he will have some delay in growth plate closure, and he will also have uneven growth in his bones resulting in joint angles that could be more liable to injury.  A more conservative exercise approach may be warranted with early spay/neutered dogs.
  • There are breed-specific orthopedic concerns which are not addressed here.
  • For any dog that you wish to enroll in a performance career, I highly recommend doing x-rays to confirm growth plate closure before proceeding with any intense training. Recommended for Sport prospects NOT to spay / neuter till 4 years old.
